JULY 2017 STORIES
Mesto imam rada in sem prava Goričanka."
ENG: "As my parents come from "the hills", people have always teased me that I'm a newcomer. When I started attending secondary school, I spent all my time in Nova Gorica. With my company, we gave our own name to each spot in the town and told each other in our code where we were. It is small and big and full of everything. I like this town and I like being a true citizen of Nova Gorica." |

ENG: "As travelers, through out our journey we came to the conclusion that the true representation of a city is not its history nor monuments, but the people that lives within. In terms of knowledge about the place, Nova Gorica is one of many cities that we knew nothing before arriving, very little when we left, and possibly would have forgotten all by the time we get home. However, we will remember the amazing people it offered us, the wine we drank and the songs we have sung. This city is our final stop in our Slovenian journey, a solid ending!"
Borut BašinSLO: "Vse življenje me spremlja glasba.

ENG: "All my life is accompanied by music. But music too, that commonplace, everywhere present music, has emptied, just as society did, just as the human mind drained away. And as I read today: no criterion exists anymore to separate between what is right and what is not, between the just and the unjust, and I add - between quality and general mediocrity. What prevails is the right of power, violence and capital. Because capital is power, violence. In our town as well. And so we have to look for and find what is hidden and still good. As an act of defiance against the logic of power, violence and capital."
Irena Silič TorkarSLO: "Čeprav nisem Novogoričanka ampak avtohtona Šempetrka, me je Nova Gorica zaznamovala. Najbolj me je presunil stavek: "Za uspešno podjetje so pomembne tri stvari: lokacija, lokacija in lokacija." Blizu morja, rek, brd, gora.

Stičišče dveh jezikov, kultur in prepičanj. V Novi Gorici ljudje živijo kvalitetno. Naj tako ostane."

ENG: "Although I'm originally from Šempeter, not from Nova Gorica, this town marked me as well. Attending Secondary School of Economics here was crucial. I'll never forget the first lesson of Business economics, especially one sentence: "Three things are needed for a successful business: location, location and location." And I have always stuck to that rule. That's why I set up my first ‘’nail care spot’’ in the biggest shopping centre in Nova Gorica – in its very centre. I had enough will, power and luck that the idea became a success and because of so much demand, I decided to open a beauty salon in another shopping centre. In a while, it too became too small, so I started extending it. In 2017, I expanded my business to Ljubljana. It is immediately obvious that Nova Gorica is a young town. It is growing, developing and becoming more mature with time. Its location is exceptional: near the sea, rivers, hills and mountains. A crossroads of two languages, cultures and beliefs. People in Nova Gorica enjoy a good quality of life, let us stay that way."
Zarja TrkmanSLO: "...

ENG: "... Nova Gorica has been "my town" for exactly 40 years ... I come from Solkan and I will always be a SUKENKA ... that's how it is ... Nova Gorica is becoming multicultural ... after 12 years of my absence, I found myself in a different place ... there are many newcomers from the former Yugoslav republics, many foreigners ... a lot of obese people and long-legged girls ... the town is getting ever prettier and that's how it's supposed to be ... it has a soul ... a lot ... is happening ... in the town within a park ..."

ENG: "My father, a former customs officer, is Italian and my mother is from Nova Gorica - my parents met literally at the border. And that's how I feel myself, half from Gorizia and half from Nova Gorica. For a long time, I worked as an informatician travelling all over Italy. I've also travelled around the world for pleasure. A couple of years ago I returned to the only city that allows me to be both Slovenian and Italian. From my uncle, I inherited an artistic stained glass workshop Ars Vitrum that I moved from Solkan to the centre of Gorizia. Besides that, I teach dances and organise music events in both cities."
ENG: "In Nova Gorica, our thinking is free, where the young find a place to be. We're well taken care of here, when it's warm there's the Summer Scene. And when it's not, there's a fireplace that's hot." |

ENG: "For 30 years, I have been following the ever-changing night life in Nova Gorica. At the beginning of the 90's, Nova Gorica was known as a city of discos and entertainment. At the end of the 90s, the discos were closed and casinos and nightclubs were opened there instead. Later, only Marco Polo remained for some time. Now, everything is scattered at smaller locations, and various clubs offer concerts and DJ evenings. There is no room for regular music events in the city. This doesn't appeal to me, I'd rather see that at least the organizers would coordinate the events. But if anyone says to me that nothing is happening in the city, he does not know where he lives!"

Nastja SlokarSLO: "Nova Gorica je zame mesto večnih srednješolskih spominov in spominov s faksa.
ENG: "For me, Nova Gorica is a town of eternal memories from secondary school and university. My story began here, throughout which I decided to become a nurse. This vocation, which is more than just a profession and is part of nurses' lives, became reality for me. I got a job at the intensive care unit at the Hospital in Šempeter, where health professionals save people's lives and where they leave a part of themselves." |

Lalit Das (Leon Šinigoj)SLO: "Kot mladenič sem vstopil v zajčjo luknjo ... CRMK, bunker, in ko sem hotel izstopiti, izhoda v normalnost nisem več našel ... odpotoval marsikam po svetu in doživel veliko različnih realnosti, videl mnogo krajev ...

ENG: "As a young man, I went down the rabbit hole ... CRMK, Bunker, and when I wanted to get out of it, I did not find the exit into normality ... I traveled to many countries around the world and experienced a lot of different realities, I saw many places ... life seemed to me like the river that marked my childhood. The Soča set the standards of beauty to my eyes, and everywhere I was, I began to see bridges between my birthplace and the areas of my explorations ... the Soča, the Ganges, Rio ... all becoming one ... and thus I like returning to Nova Gorica."
ENG: "Although I'm not a "true" citizen of Nova Gorica, I've been in contact with it since my early childhood when I used to attend Ciciban playtime activities at the library, which was situated on Gradnikova street at the time. These days as well, I spend most of my time in this town, so it is some kind of a second home for me and I can say it is a great place that offers an abundance of possibilities for relaxation after a hard day's work thanks to the surrounding hills and the Soča river." |

ENG: "I dedicated the exhibition I had at the City Gallery at the occasion of Nova Gorica's 70th anniversary to the ancestors, considering there would be no city without them." |

Rajmund KolencSLO: "V Novo Gorico sem prišel leta 1956. Končal sem mizarsko šolo in se vklopil v mesto. Hišo imam v centru in v tem obdobju sem ustvaril desetčlansko družino.
ENG: "I arrived in Nova Gorica in 1956. I completed carpentry school and found my place in this town. I have a house in the centre and I have raised a ten-member family during this period. Bevkov Sqare is like a living room of this town that gets its own soul this way." |
